About the Zantac Lawsuit
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall of Zantac, pulling the drug off of US shelves.
This comes on the heels of new FDA studies that appear to show that Zantac pills can very easily undergo dangerous chemical changes. Even when stored at room temperature, Zantac can break down and form a carcinogen called NDMA. Under hotter conditions, such as being stored in a car, the deterioration happens more quickly, causing the tablets to have a potentially life-threatening buildup of NDMA.
Since last summer, the FDA has resisted calls to pull the drug from the markets and has gone so far as to issue misleading information that favored Sanofi, the drug’s manufacturer.

Ranitidine, the active ingredient in Zantac, is used to treat heartburn, stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and other issues that arise from a surplus of stomach acid. The drug has been under scrutiny as a possible cancer risk for many years. Despite this, Zantac’s profitability did not suffer. A 1996 PubMed article described it at the time as the “best-selling drug in history.” While its share of the market has declined since then, its sales have remained formidable, netting $128.9 million in sales in 2018. Before today, the drug was available both over the counter and by prescription.
